What's Ahead in 2018?

2018 promises to hold further changes in the employment and WHS space. Some key areas will be:

  • Domestic Violence Leave: Greater pressure for employers to introduce paid domestic violence leave of up to 10 days each year. Increasingly this is gaining traction in workplaces and this will continue to be the subject of a considerable campaign. A number of large employers have already introduced these provisions.
  • Mental Health Issues: Organisations across Australia, are clearly facing increased complexity relating to an increase in mental health issues among their workforce. Holding conversations with staff can be particularly sensitive so receiving practical guidance on how to recognise and respond to staff is critical. If not managed well, organisations find it an enormous challenge to facilitate an early return to regular duties.

There are also the legal issues which arise in managing staff with mental health issues including relating to absenteeism, return to work and performance management.

Early intervention is essential to minimising the impact of mental health issues. Contact one of the team at Your HRmanager to receive the necessary guidance
